We love stories. We love them in the form of books, films, spoken word, and, of course, TV shows—our go-to couch-time activity for pizza night (which is every night at our house, pretty much).
Here are some of our favorites lately. We try to savor them and make them last, but since they are all truly binge-worthy, we’re not afraid to admit that we’ve we blitzed through a lot of these much faster than we’d planned. 🙂
- The Gentlemen (a Guy Ritchie series): Drug farms hidden under posh aristocratic land, gangsters, sharp and witty dialog, and plenty of style. What’s not to love? In just one season, Guy Ritchie manages to craft a stylish and provocative story filled with all of the above. He’s good like that. The show takes place in the same universe as his film, The Gentlemen, but the stories aren’t directly related. It’s a must-watch that you won’t want to end. We just finished it and we miss it already.
- Daisy Jones & The Six: Based on the bestselling novel, this limited series follows the tumultuous journey of a 1970s rock band, complete with feuds and fabulous music. The costumes and styling are great as well, but we won’t leave spoilers here. It’s a cool story and a really fun watch that we highly recommend.
- Silo: Set in a dystopian future, this super moody and atmospheric series delves into a mysterious underground community and all of the weird secrets it holds. It’s suspenseful, otherworldly, and has a very dark, Giger-esque look and feel. The show takes you on a really cool journey and continues to get more and more strange as the series progresses.
- The Curse: Nathan Fielder’s black comedy is a bizarre, fully scripted satire filled with lots of uncomfortable laughs and unexpected twists. With themes ranging from cultural appropriation to odd curses, it’s a show that stays with you long after you finish. Emma Stone delivers a knock-out performance, portraying a brilliantly cringe-worthy character.
- Poker Face: Natasha Lyonne nails her role as a casino worker with an exceptional ability to detect lies in this mystery-of-the-week series. The show has a ’70s vibe with a modern twist, an awesome cast, and plenty of suspense throughout. It’s edgy, witty, stylish, action-packed, and totally weird in the best way. Adrian Brody, Chloë Sevigny, and Benjamin Bratt also star in the series. It’s definitely worth a watch if you haven’t started it already.
- Ramy: A24’s distinct style shines in this comedy-drama series, offering an authentic look into Muslim culture. Written by Ramy Youssef, Ari Katcher, and Ryan Welch, Ramy focuses on Ramy’s journey of self-discovery in his New Jersey neighborhood. The show is heartfelt, funny, and endearingly real.
- Fisk: This underrated Aussie comedy follows the misadventures of a newly divorced lawyer navigating small-town life in Melbourne. Packed full of laugh-out-loud moments, it takes a really bland theme and turns it into one of the most intelligent and hilarious shows we’ve seen in a long time.
- The Bear: Its many accolades make it no secret that The Bear is one of the greats. A raw and intense portrayal of restaurant kitchen culture, the show delivers standout performances and brilliant storytelling through and through. Anyone craving good on-screen authenticity needs to watch this show if you haven’t already. Yet another we didn’t want to end.
