Born and raised in Desert Point, home of Lombok’s longest barrel and one of the most legendary lefthand reef breaks on the planet, Usman Trioko’s been surfing nearly his entire life. He’s a top freestyle surfer in Indonesia and arguably one of the most stylish tube riders in the world. Usman grew up surfing alongside some of his idols. As a kid, he got to hang out and help on the set of Rob Machado’s film, “The Drifter,” and between shoots, he’d just kick back with Rob, play chess, and surf. Today, his life really isn’t too different—plenty of surf, and always a new adventure.
We caught up with Usman recently on a surf trip to a neighboring island. We shared some fish barbecue and he told us all about why he loves surfing…and how he’s living the dream, jungle boy style:
Wardrobe: Drifter
Usman’s also a surf guide. If you’re lucky enough to go on a trip with him, you’ll soon see he’s a straight-up hunter-gatherer, he’s funny as hell, he grills up an epic barbecue fish dinner, and he’s a blast to be around. But most of all, the dude’s an incredible fucking surfer.
